Data Science Book Talk with Allison Pugh

Critics commonly warn about three primary hazards of AI 鈥 job disruption, bias, and surveillance/privacy concerns. Yet the conventional story of AI鈥檚 dangers is missing a vital issue and blinding us to its role in a cresting 鈥渄epersonalization crisis.鈥 She explains how we have ended up in a moment in which machines have time for people, while human workers rush by, bent to the dictates of the industrial clock, and she maps out its implications for the future of our social health. Allison Pugh, Professor of Sociology at Johns Hopkins University will speak about her new book in a talk sponsored by Data Science, GSSW&SR, Health Studies, and Sociology.
